Dan’s the man

Rdsud_martinpodiumTeam Garmin-Chipotle H3O rider Dan Martin took first in his first pro race, the Route du Sud. “Nobody made it easy for us today – and the sprinters’ teams pretty much just gave up halfway through,” said CEO Director Sportif Jonathan Vaughters from the finish in Castres. “However, the guys did great and held the gap nice and even. Dan was comfortable and well protected. Winning our first race out for our new sponsor, Garmin, is pretty special.” We couldn’t agree more. Congrats to Dan, now dubbed “Prince of Pyrénées”, and the rest of his teammates for pulling off the win in the sweltering heat and punishing grades of this mountainous race. Check out the podium pic and more race details on the Team Garmin site. And be sure to read the CyclingNews profile of Martin from a year ago that details how this Irish star is “recycling the family name.” His father, Neil Martin, is a former British amateur road race champ who still races and his uncle, Stephen Roche, holds the title of 1987 Tour de France winner.
