AEA Convention, Day 1: Gary Kelley Receives 2015 AEA Lifetime Achievement Award
Today at Garmin, we couldn’t be more proud to kick off Day 1 of the 58th annual 2015 Aircraft Electronics Association International Convention & Trade Show, by watching our very own Gary Kelley receive the AEA Lifetime Achievement Award. Gary retired after 19 years at Garmin in December 2011 as the vice president of marketing, where he led the aviation, marine outdoor, fitness and automotive segments. Today, Gary was honored as the recipient of the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the AEA’s board of directors.
Gary started his career in the avionics industry in 1972, where he worked for the general aviation avionics division of Allied Signal/BendixKing. He joined Garmin in 1992 as the director of marketing and went on to also serve as director of Garmin Europe from 1993 to 2004. Under Gary’s leadership within Garmin’s aviation segment, products such as the ever-popular GNS 430/530 and the G1000 Integrated Flight Deck were introduced.
Today, the AEA board of directors recognized Gary for his countless hours of volunteerism within the association, including his contribution as a board member and his leadership on the AEA’s Future Studies Report – a strategic plan developed in the mid-1990’s. Under his executive leadership, Garmin was named AEA Associate Member of the Year on three occasions: 1994; 2000; and 2011. In addition to his service on the AEA board of directors, Gary also served as a board member for the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) and the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA).
