Adventures with Astro

Dsc00754Dsc00757Dsc00761_3Our next foray took place near Midland, Texas as the guests of Steve Snell, owner of Gun Dog Supply and a prominent Astro dealer.  This part of Texas is known for its prime scaled (or blue) quail hunting.  Unlike the "gentleman" bobwhite quail that politely hold for pointing dogs, scalies run fast and far.  And so did we — in hot, dusty weather that made our dogs seek out the cool water of windmill tanks at every turn.  The Astro was particularly helpful in locating dogs, birds, and even our truck after a winding and disorienting time amid the mesquites and prickly pear cactus.

Dsc00758Dsc00745_2We returned to Kansas happy, sore, and tired — and with a respectable number of birds in our cooler.  Take it from us — if you have bird dogs and don’t yet own an Astro, save yourself frustration and worry and get one!  After all, there are few feelings worse than losing a dog.
