The benefits of Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) are here and as the FAA has recently made it clear, the ADS-B equipment mandate is not in jeopardy of missing the 2020 deadline. With the construction of the ADS-B network of ground stations completed, the benefits of complying with ADS-B are available today and we can take advantage of them now as opposed to waiting until the last minute (and perhaps missing the deadline or being put on a lengthy waiting list!)

1,433 business days remain until December 31, 2019 – the last date which aircraft owners have to comply with the ADS-B mandate. But, we both know you won’t be spending New Year’s at the local avionics shop. Approximately 140,000 N-registered, transponder-equipped aircraft need to visit their local avionics shop for an ADS-B upgrade. With those figures in mind, roughly 130 aircraft need to be upgraded each day to meet ADS-B requirements. According to the Aircraft Electronic Association (AEA), only 100 aircraft are being upgraded to comply with ADS-B each month. That’s right – a month.

So what are you waiting for? Subscription-free weather brought to you by a completed network of 634 ground stations, provides weather products such as METARs, TAFs and NEXRAD. Even further, these ground stations help supply traffic information. It’s safer, too! Air traffic controllers have the ability to track ADS-B-equipped aircraft on a continual basis versus the standard update rate of 12 seconds with older radar technology.

Have questions? Our ADS-B Academy has a variety of information, including videos that answer questions like:

Who needs ADS-B?

How do I equip for ADS-B?

What is ADS-B ‘In’ and ‘Out’?

FAQ’s and an installation planner all within the ADS-B Academy also help you determine the best solution for your needs. And remember, aircraft operating in Classes A, B and C airspace, as well as certain other specified classes of airspace, will need to broadcast ADS-B Out by December 31, 2019. So, don’t spend your New Years in the avionics shop and avoid the backlog of aircraft anticipated ahead of the deadline. Be proactive and start enjoying the benefits of ADS-B today!
