A Stage Win On the World’s Biggest Stage
The goal of every team heading into the Tour de France is to win one of the 21 stages. Two days ago, Irishman Dan Martin made sure team Garmin-Sharp did just that. Riding in a two man breakaway, Martin out sprinted the competition to claim the stage win and add it to his successful 2013 campaign. The entire team worked for Martin on that day and executed a near perfect plan that was drawn up the night before by team Director Sportifs.
After a grand effort by all, the team welcomed the first rest stage that came the following day. During the rest day, riders stayed low-key by receiving massages, going out on easy rides and keeping hydrated. They also had a chance to re-fuel themselves with healthy calories many times throughout the day. Mechanics tuned the performance machines the riders depend on and were able to get off their feet a little after supporting the first week of the tour.
This week Garmin-Sharp riders will test their individual time trial abilities against the rest of the field and Dan Martin will look to improve upon his current 8th place at just over two minutes down.
