2015: A Year In Review

What a great year, not only for us, but for general aviation as a whole. 2015 was chock-full of new product announcements for business, certified and experimental aircraft segments. We expanded our suite of ADS-B options, added new innovative features to existing products, debuted our next generation aviator watch – D2 Bravo, and even introduced the new VIRB X & VIRB XE action cameras. We celebrated the certification of new aircraft, including the Cessna Citation Latitude and HondaJet, as well as milestone first flights for the Bell 525 and Epic E1000. To capture every exciting product and moment from 2015 would take some time, so let’s focus on a few of our highlights, through either a photo or video, of cool experiences over the past year.

Oshkosh Expansion

RV King Air Booth FB TW

Oshkosh AirVenture 2015 was one of the most successful years for EAA in terms of attendance and participation. It was the biggest year for us as well, literally. We moved to a new location, just west of Boeing Plaza, into what was the largest exhibit we’ve ever had. On static display was a King Air demonstrating our G1000 retrofit, an RV-7 with our latest experimental avionics, and a Cessna 206 with our top of the line certified products. Inside the booth we showed off everything from our aviation app Garmin Pilot, to our fully integrated flight decks. We also introduced on-site seminars and hands-on training courses for the first time.

Goodyear Blimp Ride Along

In October, Goodyear invited us to ride along on their newest, Garmin-equipped blimp, Wingfoot One. Not only did we jump at the opportunity, but we took some VIRB XE cameras along as well. We got a glimpse of what it takes to launch, fly, and land one of the most iconic aircraft in the world.

Making a Splash at Oshkosh

We put our new VIRB XE action cameras to the test at Oshkosh! Thanks to the generosity of our friend, we found out what it’s like to land in the AirVenture Seaplane Base. With VIRB XEs attached to the sponsons of a Lake Amphibian, we found out just how rugged this camera really is! And trust us, it doesn’t get much cooler than skimming along the water at 50 mph!

Hanging with Pete

We had the opportunity to catch up with our friend, and Team Garmin pilot Pete McLeod at the Las Vegas Red Bull Air Race in October. We got a behind-the-scenes look at his Edge 540 race plane, what drives the Canadian pilot, and what it takes to prepare for and fly a Red Bull Air Race.

With such a successful year in 2015, we can only get even more excited about what is coming in 2016. Stay tuned, because you won’t want to miss a thing. #flyGarmin
