Tom De Dorlodot
The Red Bull X-Alps begins in three days and Garmin sponsored athlete Tom De Dorlodot is ready to go. He along with our other athlete Paul Guschibauer will be competing against each other, and 31 others to see who is tough enough to run, hike and paraglide over 1,000 kilometers. Tom was unable to compete last year because of a broken back, suffered in his own personal flying adventure; he looks to bounce back in this year’s race. The 2015 race will be Tom’s 5th time competing in the X-Alps which is an accomplishment on it’s own.

Tom spends most of his time in the mountains and would classify himself as an adventurer at heart. In 2001 he started paragliding and says his motivation to do so was because of a desire to “discover the world from above and have fun with my friends”. Since taking up paragliding, he has averaged about 250 hours of flying a year. Tom followed the very first X-Alps race, and did so with a lot of admiration for the participants. He says he immediately started dreaming of competing in the race one day.

Tom achieved that goal of competing in X-Alps, and has competed four times since. He may not have very notable finishes, as 10th place is the closest he’s come, but that doesn’t hinder his drive to make it to the top this year. He has been training endlessly with his fenix 3 and is ready to show everyone his strength and endurance. This is the lifestyle of Tom De Dorlodot: high flying, action packed, and brimming with adventure. Be sure to keep track of Tom in this year’s race here!
