X-Alps athlete Paul Guschlbauer

Meet the adventurous, daring, outdoor athlete: Paul Guschlbauer. He is Austrian born and no stranger to the Red Bull X-Alps race. This will be Paul’s 3rd time competing in the X-Alps and he says he’s in the best shape of his life this go around. Leading up to the race, he has been training intensely with his fenix 3 and is ready to compete for the X-Alps title.

Paul was first an endurance athlete and a very skilled pilot who decided to take up paragliding in 2005. He says it’s a new motivation and challenge that he was looking for after being a semi-professional mountain biker for many years. He was inspired to take on the X-Alps challenge after seeing an advertisement about the race, and he says it was one of the main reasons he took up flying.

As stated earlier, this will be Paul’s 3rd time contending in the race and he has big aspirations for this year. The first year he competed at the Red Bull X-Alps race was 2011, and he ended up finishing third. Paul says that is one of his favorite sporting moments, finishing third as a rookie after pushing 14 days through the Alps. The 2013 race was not what Paul had envisioned as he finished 9th in the group and did not make it to Monaco. But this race will be different. It’s a new year and Paul Guschlbauer is ready for the challenge. Tune in to track Paul’s progress throughout the X-Alps race!
