Jordan Alicandro - The Biggest Loser

We caught up with Jordan Alicandro, The Biggest Loser: Glory Days Season 16 Contestant, and learned how he has being doing since the show concluded.

Imagine being an elite athlete on your way to the top, loving life and having everything fall into place until you suffer injury after injury and watch your dreams of becoming a professional baseball player ripped away. You fall into depression and the only way you know to cope with it is by eating. Before you know it you are 31 years old weighing in at 323lbs. A shell of your former self. You know the life you’re leading isn’t what you had always dreamed, but you come to the point where enough is enough and it’s time to get your life back.

That was me just under a year ago. I remember wanting to get a bit of that athlete back and trying to lose weight but having zero direction on where to start or how to get going for that matter. I would go to the gym daily and spin my wheels on the elliptical for 20-30 minutes and go home and eat an unhealthy dinner and had no clue why I wasn’t losing any weight or more specifically not knowing the calorie intake vs. calorie output. I was completely lost and didn’t know how to get out of this rut. So how did I make the change? It wasn’t until I learned of the upcoming birth of my son along with the opportunity to be on NBC’s The Biggest Loser, that I started getting the drive, knowledge and tools I desperately needed to be successful.

One of those tools was a Garmin vívofit. I was a little skeptical at first, but now I wear it all the time. It started to give me a realistic view on what I was burning in a day which I struggled with before. As I started being able to track my exercise and how many calories were leaving my body with my vívofit, it became very easy to then be able to manage the diet side. Having the integration with MyFitnessPal wasn’t just handy or neat, but rather crucial. I was able to finally have an area to attack and burn more calories than what I was eating. Garmin and the vivofit simplified it for me and made it do-able.

With the help of a vívofit, I was not only able to lose 143lbs, win the at home prize of $100,000 but I got my life back! I did this for my family so I could do everything in my power to be there for my son and wife. I did this so they could also see the real me. A fun, outgoing, loving man who loves life! What’s next you ask?

On May 31, 2015, I not only will be sharing my story at the Calgary Marathon Expo but I will be running my first ever Marathon! I’m excited and nervous, but have been training hard and have even got my average mile time below 9 minutes. Follow me on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to follow my progress.

Jordan will be writing a race recap after he finishes the Calgary Marathon so make sure you check back to our blog soon. Wish him good luck!
