Victor’s Vectors: New software update for aera

Aera550_HR_600.2 Oshkosh has more than its fair share of announcements and press releases. Announcements like the GPSMAP 696/695 getting geo-referenced charts, the GSR 56 Iridium transceiver that enables worldwide weather capability, the GDL 59 with Wi-Fi data link, the G500/G600 software updates, the G1000 upgrades for the King Air 200, the Garmin ESP, and the Pilot My-Cast upgrades for the iPhone. However, with all of these big press announcements sometimes other smaller upgrades slip through the cracks. One such upgrade is the 2.70 operating software for the aera series GPS units. Similar to how customers have been requesting the geo-referenced charts for the 696, Garmin has been receiving requests from Helicopter pilots for the ability to search for addresses on the aviation side of the aera series units. I’m proud to announce that with the 2.70 software update for the aera 500, 510, 550, and 560, your request is granted. Now, not only can you search for a specific address, but you can also search for a crossroad and get direct-to guidance to that location. This is a huge advantage for police, search and rescue, and fire departments, as well as news helicopter pilots, and is another example of Garmin responding to our customer's needs.
