Victor’s Vectors: flyGarmin.com adds flight planning and weather forecasts
The week of Oshkosh saw a lot of announcements for new products and features, but one Garmin announcement seems to have gotten lost in the excitement. Like a caterpillar spreading its wings, flyGarmin.com continues to transform and it now includes another reason for pilots to visit the website. A flight planning feature has been added to flyGarmin.com so that aircraft profiles can be used to generate FAA flight plans, display weather over the intended flight, calculate estimated time enroute, and fuel burn. Also with this new tab you can show NEXRAD, METARs, TAFs, PIREPs, winds aloft, and area forecasts. And official DUAT(S) briefings are coming soon. All of this information and utility is at your figure tips, and it's free! FlyGarmin.com also links up very nicely with Pilot My-Cast and allows a pilot to plan and save a route on the computer then check it and file it while on the road from a compatible cell phone. The flyGarmin.com website is continuing to progress and go through a metamorphosis to change into the ultimate website for pilots. Check back frequently or you may miss something beautiful.
