Training with Professional Snowboarder Silje Norendal

Professional snowboarder Silje Norendal is no stranger to pushing her body to its limits when it comes to shredding the slopes. In 2013, she took home gold in Slopestyle at the Winter X-Games in Tignes, and the 2014 and 2015 Winter X-Games in Aspen. She also finished on the podium at events like the Dew Tour Mountain Championships and Burton’s High Fives in New Zealand, as well as finishing in 11th at Sochi.

Silje has taken the past 3 months to recover from an injury that happened during an event in South Korea when she broke her arm. After recovering from surgery, Norendal has turned her focus to the gym.  During the season, Norendal workouts out 4 to 5 times per week in addition to riding and during the season she puts in 2 sessions a day, Monday to Friday. “All the training I do is to get my body strong again after a long season, and ready for a new one,” said Norendal. She does basic strength and cardio split up in different sessions during the week. She works her core, back, upper body to help prevent injuries, and mixes in cardio and trampoline sessions for balance, control, coordination and stamina.

“Working out has still helped me mentally in a lot of ways. I been focusing on the positives like getting my core and leg strength back,” said Norendal. “The gym has also been a place where I let go of all the sad thoughts around being hurt and been able to look forward.”

Norendal uses the vívoactive and the vívofit 2 while she’s riding. When she’s off the board, she likes the vivofit 2 for everyday use, and the vivoactive in the gym. Norendal really likes how she can connect the vivoactive to her phone. “Instead of picking up my phone when it’s freezing outside I can just look at my watch and get all the info I need. Like my calendar, emails, notifications, control my music and if the clouds are coming in when I’m out riding I can look up the weather forecast.”

Since it’s already the end of the winter season, you won’t see Norendal back on snow until June. Then, she’ll be heading to Australia and New Zealand in August, starting the season and competing in the first qualifier for South Korea in 2018.
