During the pre-spawn time of the year is your best chance of catching a Bass of a lifetime. When the water temperatures hit the magical 72° a week before the full moon I will target the spawning areas throwing a swim bait around the vegetation looking for those active females that are getting ready to move on the bed to spawn. I like to target water depths that are 3 foot to 6 foot deep with good clarity. Finding baitfish or forage in the area is always a plus and I will match the color of my swim bait accordingly. Make long cast with a steady retrieve with the swim bait near or on the surface… be ready for an explosive strike. The bass in the picture was caught by me on December 18th 2012 on Lake Okeechobee in the Clewiston area.

Here is my set up – Okuma  7’6″ heavy  with a Okuma Komodo 7.3 bait casting reel matched with 50 to 65 pound test braid. My favorite swim baits are the Bruiser Super Swimmers matched with a Trokar swim bait hook.
