Team X Unveils the Next Generation Flight Display

We have built up the excitement and anticipation and I am thrilled to finally introduce G3X Touch, our newest addition to our lineup of avionics designed for installation in experimental amateur-built and light sport aircraft. G3X Touch offers pilots, a large 10.6-inch touchscreen, glass flight display, with a number of advanced features and options every pilot will love!

G3X Touch features an intuitive interface that pilots will recognize from other Garmin avionics, which streamlines time spent navigating the menu structure, building flight plans, and finding important flight G3X Touch Attitude Awareness
plan information. The infrared touchscreen gives pilots quick access to important information in-flight and pilots who choose to wear gloves while flying, will find they can easily do so with G3X Touch. For common in-flight functions such as navigating ‘Direct-to’ an airport or locating the ‘Nearest’ airport or navigation facility, dedicated buttons are also available along the bottom of the display. ‘Menu’ and ‘Back’ buttons, as well as two rotary knobs also provide pilots efficiency in performing a variety of actions for optional functionality.

Utilizing years of experience in glass flight displays, we’ve incorporated the same touchscreen technology used on our GTC 570 touchscreen controllers found in our G2000, G3000, and G5000 integrated flight decks. Even though G3X Touch is designed for amateur-built and light sport aircraft, we’ve loaded it with features and capabilities found on larger, advanced aircraft!

We’ve made it easy. Since many pilots and aircraft homebuilders have incorporated the previous generation G3X into the panels of their airplanes, we designed G3X Touch to interface easily with existing equipment. There’s no need to replace antennas or any other equipment behind the panel so the installation of the display is simple. If one display isn’t enough, pilots can optionally choose to install up to two or three (yes, three!) displays in a single aircraft panel!

Aside from the compelling touchscreen, G3X Touch gives pilots split-screen view so they may view the primary flight display (PFD), multi-function display (MFD), and engine information on a single display. G3X Touch SXM WX
Synthetic vision (SVX) is standard on G3X Touch, offering a three-dimensional view of terrain, obstacles, and the runway environment. Along with SVX, SiriusXM Aviation Weather compatibility adds to situational awareness by enabling pilots to view weather while in-flight.

We are also excited to introduce the new GTR 20 remote comm, which can be installed with the G3X Touch system. The GTR 20 offers pilots a clear, powerful communication 10W radio and intercom, which is tucked away behind the panel and controlled from the G3X Touch display. Offering advanced features such as 3D audio, stereo intercom, stereo music input, alert inputs and standby frequency monitoring, the GTR 20 offers pilots features typically found on larger aircraft. Have you seen (or heard!) the technology behind 3D audio?

As if G3X Touch wasn’t loaded with enough features, Garmin’s HD action camera VIRB can easily interface with G3X Touch to display live video in-flight! Pilots may start and stop video recording, as well as take high-quality still images from the display of G3X Touch. Also, G3X Touch can display angle of attack (AOA) information when installed with the GSU 25 ADAHRS and GAP 26 probe. Situational awareness is taken to a whole new level (or altitude!) with AOA!

You might be wondering, how did Garmin pack all of these cool features into G3X Touch? Well, it’s easy when we have a talented group of dedicated experimental aviation engineers, whom are pilots and homebuilders and share the same passion as many of you. They’re enthusiastic about incorporating customer requests and developing innovative products that enhance each and every flight, and there’s no question they will continue to do so for years to come!

And if you plan to attend the Sun ‘n Fun Airshow in Lakeland, Florida next week, be sure to swing by the Garmin booth to see G3X Touch in action!
