Team Lampre-Merida’s Arashiro Wins Most Combative Rider

We had the chance to catch up with Team Lampre-Merida’s, Yukiya Arashiro, after he was named Most Combative Rider during stage 6 of the Tour. Arashiro is one of the most appreciated and competitive Japanese riders in the history of Nipponese cycling. In February, he suffered a broken leg due to a crash in the Tour of Oman, however he performed an impressive and fast recovery, which brought him back in a pro race less than four months later where he won the Izu stage in the Tour of Japan.

During his recovery, he received additional assistance thanks to a few Garmin devices. “The Index Smart Scale helped my to control my weight and my body parameters, the Garmin Edge was my reliable mate when I could finally come back on my Merida bike, the vívosmart HR marked my days from the morning to the night,”said Arashiro.

During the Grande Boucle, he was great protagonist of the 6th stage, the Arpajon sur Cère-Montauban of the 190.5 kilometer stage, he led the breakaway with only one other rider form the 3rd kilometer until 25km to the arrival. Thanks to this performance, Arashiro was awarded as the most combative rider of the day.

On Thursday, July 7th, I woke up in the morning and, as usual, the first thing I did was to check my vívosmart HR, which revealed to me that I slept very well, recovering the body and mental energies I had spent the day before in the demanding stage of 2016 with summit arrival in Le Lioran.

Before going to take my breakfast, I checked my weight using the Index Smart Scale, which is placed by the team’s staff in the corridor of every hotel which host us. The weight check is a common procedure for all the riders on the team and it is done in the morning and in the evening, in addition to a third weight check which is done on the team bus thanks to another Index Smart Scale: all the data collected by the means of the Index Smart Scale are analyzed daily by the team doctor.

Then I focused my attention exclusively on the race, on the breakaway and on the efforts, which did not give me the stage’s victory but they gave me the prize as the most combative rider.
On the ceremony podium, my vívosmart HR was on my wrist. You can not even imagine how many emails and messages I received after the stage and I could check them immediately thanks to vívosmart
”.
