When it comes to outdoor adventure, Montana packs a full slate of activities all into one exceptional state. This western state is famously defined by its distinctive landscape, extending from the heights of the Rocky Mountains to the rolling Great Plains. The Treasure State is home to two national parks, vast wilderness areas, snow-capped peaks, numerous lakes and streams, and plenty of outdoor opportunities worth experiencing.

Located in northwest Montana, Flathead Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi River. The lake is home to an amazing amount of outdoor activities including fishing, water skiing, boating, stand-up paddle boarding, mountain biking, kayaking, canoeing, and more. What makes this lake extremely attractive is the area surrounding the lake. It is mainly undeveloped which makes it extremely peaceful and picturesque. Flathead Lake is one of the cleanest lakes in the world for its size, and has some of the most breathtaking views.

This location will be a photographer’s first choice when visiting Montana. With awe-inspiring natural beauty, stunning mountain views, spectacular lakes, and plenty of trails to hike, this place makes anyone enthusiastic about being outdoors. The park is home to over 1 million acres of vast wilderness and includes parts of two major mountain ranges, over 130 named lakes, more than 1,000 different species of plants, and hundreds of species of animals. Glacier National Park has more than 7,000 feet of elevation variance and is the perfect place to hike, ride bikes, camp, and just soak in nature at its finest.

Ross Creek Cedar Grove Scenic Area

Get ready to walk amongst giants at this Northwestern Montana location. Consisting of 500-year-old giant red cedars that can grow up to 12 feet in diameter and 175 feet in height. This rain forest setting is a favorite for all outdoorsman. Ross Creek hosts incredible natural attractions and is considered one of the most undisturbed places on the planet. The area is home to a 4.5-mile trail that winds through massive trees. It makes for great photo opportunities and an exceptional day hike. This ancient forest is also a great spot for mountain biking and geocaching as well, so don’t forget to bring your VIRB XE action camera to capture all the excitement and excellent views.

You can find unbelievable outdoor experiences all over the U.S., but some can be a little harder to find than others.
