Scott Martin Wins 2015 FLW Angler of the Year
Garmin pro Scott Martin of Clewiston, Florida has been crowned the 2015 FLW Tour Angler of the Year. He has had a very impressive career, winning the 2011 Forrest Wood Cup at Lake Ouachita, and amassing five career FLW Tour wins. About the only thing missing from his résumé was an Angler of the Year title.
Before 2015, Scott has never really focused on winning the FLW Angler of the Year; he’s just been focused on winning the tournaments. Even with his wins and 33 top 10 finishes, he has admittedly bombed in quite a few tournaments because he decided to take more risks and go for the win in every event, which is not a strategy that typically wins AOY titles. However, in 2015, Scott has been more focused on staying consistent and catching enough fish to move on to the next day and rack up valuable AOY points in the process. It is a strategy that has paid off for him in a big way. After posting his worst finish of the season (44th place) in the season opener at Lake Toho, Scott has made the top 20 in every event, slowly creeping up the AOY leaderboard in the process. Consistency was the key.
On Day Three of the FLW Tour event at the Potomac River, Scott’s dream of an AOY title came true as he moved into the top 10.
There is no doubt in his mind that Garmin electronics played a key role in his AOY title in 2015. “Garmin Panoptix has been huge for me this year,” said Martin. It has been a key part of my strategy in virtually every event this season. Other companies have some things that you might think are like Panoptix, but I can tell you that there is nothing out there like it. It’s a completely different deal than anything else on the market as far as forward shooting sonar goes. It shows you what is in front of your boat in real time and it’s the only way to go. Panoptix is no joke; it’s an absolute game changer.”
