Roger’s Runway: WAAS Database for GNS 430/530
Back in March, I talked about some of the hardware changes needed with the WAAS upgraded for the GNS430/530. One change I forgot to mention was that the database information also changed with the upgraded units. With the LPV approaches, there is new data that is included with the databases. This new data requires a change of the database and a larger database card. If you subscribe with Jeppesen to get monthly updates, then you will need to change your current subscription to one that supports the WAAS data. Also, the upgraded units will come back with a larger database card. I know many of you have a spare card lying around to ease updating, but you’ll want to upgrade your spare card to a larger card so that it will also work with the larger WAAS database.
