Roger’s Runway: Shedding light on Extended Squitters

RogersrunwayGradsbwhatThis coming fourth quarter Garmin is adding another feature to help jump start ADS-B across the United States. Soon the GTX 330 and GTX 33 will have the ability to use the 1090 MHz Extended Squitter (ES) transmitting capabilities. Now you’re probably asking yourself what this does. Well join the club, because I didn’t know either. I did some research here and found out for you. Basically, the Extended Squitter capability will automatically transmit frequent accurate position, speed, and heading information to the air traffic control that must rely on radar data only. Along with the GDL 90 the Extended Squitter will provide a safer environment once ADS-B is in its full functionality.
