Rinos and Turkeys at Sunrise…

Here at Garmin International HQ in suburban Kansas City, we’re blessed with a lot of country nearby — country that holds more than a few wild turkeys.  It also affords us a great opportunity to get out and “field test” units like the Rino 530 — a favorite among hunters.

This season, a couple of us meet at 5a.m. to hunt for Mr. Tom Turkey on some private land just 10 minutes away from the Garmin Mothership.  We’ve been at it for several weeks, but the birds have always managed to give us the slip.

With the Rino though, we’ve been able to mark a bunch of different locations where we’ve seen or heard birds, and that’s allowed us to set up close to them in the pre-dawn hours.  We also find ourselves relying on the Rino’s position reporting feature… which allows us to know where the other guy is at any time… a great safety feature in thick woods.

With less than a week left in the season, all those early mornings of hard work paid off with a bird that will make great table fare for the Memorial Day Weekend.

And yes, we even made it back to the office ahead of schedule.
