Race report: KC Marathon, ½ and 5k

Fr405greencropDespite missing the starting gun by 3 minutes (who knew the lines for the portas would be 20-deep?), our trio patiently plodded through the early miles. By miles 4, 5 and 6, the race was on and we were starting to make up for lost time. Thankfully, I’d set my Forerunner 405 training page to display average pace, so I was able to gauge how we were doing overall. At one point when there were no pace team leaders in site, a runner came up behind us and asked for some pace guidance. Amy glanced at her green 405, announcing that we were clocking a 7:38 pace. Steve clarified that it was current pace, and then I chimed in that our average pace was 8:04. Nice to know Forerunner can provide instant feedback, any way you want it. Also nice to cross the finish line, stop your timer and have your official race time, splits and other data at your fingertips. Our official time: 1:43.41. Our tired, yet triumphant trio had beat our goal, and I knocked about 4 and half minutes off last year’s time. See our race data in Garmin Connect. Congrats to several other Garmin associates who clocked some amazing times in the 5k, half and full marathon distance. And thanks to those who were cheering us on from the sidelines. Watch for Jake’s recap of the marathon …along with winners of the pace prediction contest!
