Race recap
Good thing Amy had gorgeous scenery to distract as this run was … well … slightly disorganized chaos due in part to the course changing 10 days prior from road to trail. Now the race formerly known as the Crazy Horse Marathon was called the Monumental Challenge, and from Amy’s account, just getting to the race start was part of the challenge. But once she and Forerunner set out and got warmed up, she was able to enjoy the experience. Her husband used a second Forerunner to help project when Amy would be at premarked spots on the course so he could drive there to cheer her on. The race was held on the Mickelson Trail, which is a 108-mile Rails-To-Trails project winding from Deadwood to Edgemont. Check out Amy’s run in MotionBased (soon to be Garmin Connect).
Looking to do some trail running this fall? Dress the part: check out the guide to trail running shoes in the October issue of Runner’s World. Pace yourself: take it at an easier pace than road runs to account for the varied terrain and winding paths. Get lost in your run without losing your way: our GPS-enabled Forerunners give you the freedom to blaze your own path and always find your way back. And the 205 and 305 have high-sensitivity receivers for the best reception in heavy tree cover and canyons.
