Q&A with Jason Christie – Part 1
We recently sat down with Garmin Pro and Bassmaster Elite Series angler Jason Christie to talk about this season and why he joined the Garmin team. Jason has had a very impressive professional fishing career, totaling 14 wins, along with numerous top-10 finishes. In 2015, he started using Garmin marine electronics exclusively on the tournament trail.
Garmin: What tournaments are you looking forward to most this year?
Jason Christie: The Bassmaster Elite Series has an extremely diverse schedule this year and it seems like we’re covering every corner of the United States. I’d say if I had to pick one that I’m really looking forward to, it would be the California Delta. I’ve never been there, but as a kid I saw guys on TV flipping 10 pounders out of grass mats up there. I get excited for these new bodies of water that I’ve never been to because of the learning process. The Delta has a great reputation and it should complement my style of fishing very well and that’s why I’m looking forward to fishing up there. Some of the places we go to this year, like St. Clair and the St. Lawrence River, they’re some of the top 5 fisheries in the United States. Don’t get me wrong, I’m looking forward to those as well, but the one I’m looking forward to most would be the California Delta.
In addition, I am excited to take Panoptix to a smallmouth fishery. You get out there on the sand where there’s nothing, and I’ll be able to scan, see a 5-pound smallie, throw out there, catch it and move on to the next spot.
This will be my 8th year fishing professionally. It’s about to get to the point where I’ve been just about everywhere, but I’ve never been West. So, I’m excited about that but I’ve gotten to the point where I’ve been to most places. A lot of people think that would be good, and it’s definitely good in a way, but it’s also really fun for me to go somewhere I’ve never been.
