Prop & Spinner – Tips and Tricks

Chet is a busy guy, and getting busier by the
day. His fan club is growing and they’re sending emails asking him to cover
specific products. With so much to keep track of, Chet has given his blessing
to have a trusty duo talk about aviation tips and tricks while he focuses on
consumer products. Prop & Spinner have had countless adventures with
Garmin products, and have learned almost everything  there is to know about these aviation-wonders. The tips and tricks they’ll share every Wednesday are provided by
Garmin’s Product Support and Sales and Marketing teams.

Prop & Spinner
The first tip is one of the most important and works with all our current GPS’s. Prop and I have
been known to go over gross in more than one aircraft and that’s because we live by one simple rule: “Menu is your friend.” This all started at Big Bubbas BBQ and we were able to carry it over to our GPS.

Anytime you want to change something on your GPS, don’t be afraid to press the MENU key. When you press “Menu,” a list of options will appear that only have to do with the page you’re on. For example, pressing “Menu” from the “Map Page” will show a list of options that allow you to change configurations on the Map. Prop likes a “North Up” map orientation (I always knew he was a little off), so he presses “Menu” while on the map page and selects “Set Up Map.” Next, he scrolls down to “Orientation” and changes it from “Track up” to “North up”. One other tip on map orientation, I don’t recommend using “DTK Up” or “Course Up.”

Have any tips and tricks that you have found using your Garmin unit that you think would be helpful to other users? Send us an email at garminblogs@garmin.com with your suggestion.
