Prop & Spinner: Page/Mode Button Shortcut

Prop & Spinner Spinner has given you some excellent tips for using the GPSMAP 396, but I have a couple tricks too.  While flying back from the Aircraft Electronics Association  Convention in Palm Springs, CA, Spinner noticed that the some of the buttons on the GPSMAP 396 have more than one function.  I explained that the dual function buttons like the page/mode, enter/mark, menu/Wx, and the nrst/find can give you short cuts for commonly used functions.  Today’s post is about the page/mode button. Make sure you check back next Wednesday to learn about the 396’s other dual function buttons.

New_picture_2_webI explained to Spinner that the page/mode button allows us to change to other pages on the GPSMAP 396 but it also allows us to change the mode from either aviation to automobile to marine all within two seconds.  Once the menu option shows up on the screen you just need to select the mode that you want and press enter.  Going this route is much easier than the main menu because it takes less time and less button pushing.  Spinner said, “Nobody likes having their buttons pushed too many times.”  I said, “No Spinner, they do not.”
