Prop & Spinner: Menu/Wx Shortcut
Today marks the final installment of Prop & Spinner’s four-part series on the GPSMAP 396’s dual-function-buttons, but never fear, they’ll have another new aviation tip and trick next week.
This week the menu/Wx button is being covered, and it too can be used as a dual function button that will allow you to change options on the display quickly. Spinner told everyone about how menu is our friend (personally I don’t know anyone by the name of Menu), but he forgot to tell you that you can turn the weather on or off from the map page holding the button down for — you guessed it, two seconds. This feature is handy when you need to clear the weather off quickly to look at airspace information on the map page. The menu/Wx button also allows you to turn the cursor on while you are at the dedicated weather pages. This again reduces the amount of button pushing that would be needed when going through the menu option. When on the main menu page and you have the weather option selected press the menu/Wx button down for — you guessed it, two seconds and the cursor will appear. To turn the cursor off press and hold the button down for two seconds (I think you can see the trend here) so you can go to the next page.
