Peg’s Posts: Running away from winter

Heather, ad shot While the calendar still says winter, a sprinkling of cagey cyclists and runners have been venturing out this week out for lunchtime excursions around Garmin HQ. Many are gearing up for spring races and there are a slew of great local events for the picking. Tomorrow I’ll join about 600 other women for the inaugural Diva Dash 5k, benefitting my favorite charity, Girls on the Run. Pretty sure this race will have a slightly different flavor from my last event, which resulted in a later comparison of war wounds with coworkers (Ryan: 2 maimed toenails, 1 ticked-off hip; Jake: spinal subluxation; Peg: 1 black toenail, 1 tie-dyed thigh). But this is what I love about the local sport scene — lots of events and plenty of variety to suit fun-seekers, age groupers and everyone in between. Next up on my list: the Rock the Parkway half marathon, where I’ll be running for lots of little reasons through the Girls on the Run SoleMates® program, which Garmin sponsors. Through my training and racing miles, I’ll be thinking about the hundreds of girls who’ll cross the finish line of their first 5k later this spring.

Need some motivation to get your own spring training in gear? Sign up for a local race, do it for a charity if you wish, find a training plan that fits and let Forerunner track every mile and minute. You can even use Garmin Connect to create goals based on time, distance, calories or frequency. Connect automatically updates your progress as you upload your activities. It’s just one more way to get you set for the starting line this spring.
