Peg’s Posts: Disney Marathon — prep and pep talks

Prep_pics_005The rest of the prep work included stocking up on some groceries and settling in at our condo rental. We decided having a little kitchen and other amenities would be a big plus for this trip. The more fresh or self-prepared food I eat before race day, the better. Next, dad and kids looked at theme park brochures to find out which park and what attractions we’d hit on Friday. With most of the prep work for race day done, I logged onto the Garmin blog and took a few minutes to read comments and race predictions from readers. Loved hearing from readers—it’s almost like getting a mini pep talk in every comment. Jake’s comment suggested that the encouragement from my husband and kids might spur me to a faster finish time. I’m certainly counting on it.

My youngest, David, has pretty high expectations for his mom. When he heard me reading some of the race time predictions from reader comments, he said “Mom, you spent this much money on our vacation, you’d better WIN the marathon.” This coming from a kid who’s all about speed. He wore a Garmin/Elliot Sadler racing shirt to bed and his attire change for a day at the parks included a Jeff Gordon t-shirt, Jeff Gordon hat and Lightning McQueen sunglasses. Let’s hope he’s not expecting “NASCAR fast” from mom on race day.

There’s still time to enter your prediction for Peg’s finish time. Just leave a comment before midnight, CST on Jan. 10. Closest prediction to my actual finish time will get some Garmin gear giveaways. Stay tuned to find out more about my magical marathon experience.
