Peg’s Post: Ready, set, ride!
The gun’s about to go off for the first rider out of the chute for stage 5 of the Tour of California. Today’s individual time trial starts and finishes in Solvang. It’s a 15-mile course with one short, steep climb. The kind of course that several of Team Slipstream’s riders will eat up, like three-time U.S. national time trial champ David Zabriskie, who was in sixth place overall after yesterday’s stage. Two other Slipstream riders are maintaining positions in the top 7 — David Millar in 4th overall and Christian Vande Velde in 7th. Team Slipstream is in 2nd place and today’s time trial could ultimately determine the overall winner when this tour rolls into Pasadena on Sunday. Those riders in argyle definitely have an edge.
