Oshkosh Day 3: Vans RV 40th anniversary, New affordable database option
This year, AirVenture is celebrating the 40th anniversary of Van’s RV Aircraft, the most popular amateur-built aircraft in the world. There are almost 8,000 RV airplanes built and flying today, and two of them are on display at the Garmin exhibit!
Both aircraft are equipped with Garmin avionics – one with a G3X flight display and the other with the G900X integrated flight deck. aircraft and LSAs.
In addition to launching a brand new website, Garmin also came to AirVenture this year with news and special offers for experimental aircraft owners. In an effort to further reduce database costs for owners of non-certified Garmin aviation navigation products, we have introduced a new, low-cost VFR navigation database option that uses data sourced by the FAA’s aeronautical charting service, AeroNav Products.
This new database will provide select Garmin portables and experimental flight displays (like the G3X) with waypoints, intersections, frequencies and more. Garmin products that support the new government-sourced data include the aera® 796/795, aera 500 series, GPSMAP® 696/695, G3X and G300. The database is available today from flygarmin.com for $29.99 for a single update and $74.99 for an annual subscription. Additionally, bundling options that include Navigation, Obstacle and Terrain database updates are available starting at $99.99. It’s important to note that the data content covers the U.S. only and may vary from other navigation databases.
We also just announced another offer for experimental aircraft owners with G3X that are looking to equip for ADS-B. For a limited time, GPS 400W LNAV/LPV WAAS navigator is available for $4,495. The GPS 400W allows you to fly IFR approaches and it also functions as a certified position source for the GTX 23 ES ADS-B “Out” transponder.
For anyone at AirVenture this week, come by the Garmin Homebuilders Headquarters outside of Hangar D to learn more.
