New IQ in Connect IQ
Connect IQ is Garmin’s app system that enables third party developers to create content for Garmin wearables, bike computers, and Outdoor handhelds. Since launching in 2015, the Connect IQ ecosystem has grown by leaps and bounds; there are now 2.5 million Connect IQ compatible devices shipped and millions are using Connect IQ on their Garmin device. Garmin is happy to announce a number of enhancements to the Connect IQ system.
Connect IQ Store
The Connect IQ Store now has over 2000 watch faces, data fields, widgets, and device apps available for Connect IQ devices, and has served over 13 million downloads and updates to our customers. Today we are launching a major update to the app store to improve the browsing and searching experience.
The new interface makes it much easier to find the app you are looking for. We’ve redone the app browsing and app search to be faster, cleaner, and more relevant. The app badges let you quickly identify the app type, and the filters on the side and sort options on top help give you the tools to browse the hundreds of apps available for your device.
The app details is now cleaner and focuses on information important to you. The new “What’s New” section lets you see what the developer has added in their last update.
Count Your Cookies In Connect
Connect IQ data fields are a fun way to add new metrics and functionality to your workout. They allow you to see your Strava Suffer Score while you work out, or measure your time to exhaustion. Up until now these metrics were lost after the workout was done. If you installed the Cookies Earned data field you could see how many cookies you could eat after your workout, but it would be lost once your workout was over.
With the latest update to Connect IQ, device apps and data fields can now record graphs, lap, and summary information to Garmin Connect. This will allow developers to record their metrics (or information from an ANT sensor) to your workout, and let you analyze them in Connect and Connect Mobile. Now you’ll be able to see how many cookies you earned after your workout is over! We think this will open up new apps for Garmin devices, and are excited to see what our developers create.
Taking it to the Edge
Connect IQ launched data field support on the Edge®520, 820, 1000, and Explore 1000 in March. Now we are adding support for Connect IQ widgets and apps. Widgets will appear in a page loop with the tools page, and your apps will appear when you touch the IQ button on the home screen.
