NASCAR Recap from California

NASCAR visited the Golden State over the weekend, and the two Garmin vehicles had what could only be described as a "so-so" day at the track.

Hp022507 Johnny Sauter and the No. 70 Best Buy Racing team fought their way to a decent 18th-place finish in the 500-mile NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at California Speedway.  This event marked the first of two scheduled races this season in which Sauter’s No. 70 Haas CNC Racing team and driver Jeff Green’s No. 66 Haas team will “swap” sponsorship. Sauter’s usual sponsor is Yellow Transportation, while Green’s car normally carries the blue and yellow colors of Best Buy, but for this race (and the March race at Atlanta Motor Speedway), both teams displayed the other’s paint design.  Haas CNC’s other driver, Jeff Green, placed a disappointing 30th place.  The NEXTEL circuit heads to Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 11.

Gps07cali00221It was a frustrating Friday evening for Chad McCumbee, driver of the No. 08 theGPSStore.com/Garmin Chevy truck in the Craftsman Series.  After starting in 30th place, the team was ultimately able to gain just three spots, placing 27th overall — after a nice 13th place finish at Daytona.  Chad will have two weeks to regroup and hit the ground running at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Friday, March 16th.
