Meet and Listen to Some of the World’s Top Runners at The Garmin Marathon
Josh Cox, the American record holder in the 50k (31 miles), is a four-time U.S.
Olympic Trials qualifier and
three-time U.S. National Team member. Highlights
include being the top American marathon finisher at the World Track & Field
Championships. Cox was named the USA Track & Field Athlete of the Week in
January 2009 for breaking the 50k record by four minutes at Arizona’s Rock ‘n’
Roll Marathon, and again in January 2011 for winning the P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n’
Roll Arizona Marathon, en route to breaking his own 50k American record by
three and a half minutes, running the second fastest time in history, and
missing the world record by a scant 7 seconds. In 2009 and 2011, Cox’s 50k was
the fastest in the world.
Davila broke 5:00 for
the mile as a high school freshman and has quietly and steadily worked her way
up to being an Olympic marathoner. She was thrust into the spotlight after her
thrilling finish at the 2011 Boston Marathon. Davila battled for the win with
eventual winner Caroline Kilel through the final stretch of the course and came
in second by only a two-second margin. Davila’s performance was one for the
record books as she clocked the fastest time ever by an American woman at the
Boston Marathon in 2:22:38. Davila qualified for the 2012 Olympics, though
injury prevented her from completing the marathon event. She ran track and
cross country in high school in addition to playing soccer.
