With three events of the Tour de France in the books, the Cannondale-Garmin Pro Cycling Team has shown some fight while overcoming early obstacles.

After dealing with some struggles in the first weekend, Ride Argyle placed high in Stage 3 with Dan Martin taking fourth place on Monday. Martin was very pleased with this finish, especially after avoiding a major pile up earlier in the race. Martin tweeted out his thoughts on the race.

Martin now sits at 20th place in the overall individual classification.

Wet and Windy Start

On Sunday, Stage 2 was a brutal combination of wet and windy weather conditions. While Cannondale-Garmin had Andrew Talansky and Martin in the front group, a crash midway through the stage sent them back into the second group. That forced the team to chase the rest of the way.

“The first stage of the Tour is always intense,” said sport director Charley Wegelius. “This stage was especially so because of the weather and high winds. We were set in a really good position with Talansky and Dan in that first group.”

  Van Baarle

During the Time Trial on Saturday in Utrecht, Ride Argyle started off solid with Dutchman Dylan van Baarle, leading the way with an 18th place finish.

The urban time trial was flat but technical, with few canal bridges, underpasses and speed bumps along with numerous corners and a handful of tight turns.

“I didn’t think it was so technical on the recon but going race speed it was more difficult,” said van Barrle. “The crowd was amazing. You were in a tunnel of people. I couldn’t even hear the directors on my radio.”
