Lucy’s Logbook: G600/G500 gets new features, interface capabilities

APmodes_ADFbrgGarmin has made a lot of exciting announcements over the last several days, one of those being the new GAD 43e adapter. What does that mean for our G500/G600 owners? A lot of new features!

With the latest software version 6.11 for the G500/G600, the GAD 43e enhances interface capabilities with select autopilots. The adapter allows Garmin’s digital Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS) to provide analog attitude data to third-party autopilots in place of costly to maintain ADI gyro indicators. The GAD 43e also interfaces with the G500 and G600 for configuration and interfaces with Garmin’s AHRS system for attitude, heading and yaw input information.

Further reducing pilot workload and placing important data in the pilots’ field of view, the GAD 43e enables pilots to interface their NAV radios and display VOR, Localizer, and Glide Slope information on the G500/600. The ability to display marker beacons, DME and ADF bearing information, as well as analog radar altimeter information further enables customers to clean up their aircraft panel.

Starting out as a low-time flight instructor, I remember vividly the importance of situational awareness while in the pattern with my students. The GAD 43e increases situational awareness and reduces pilot workload by displaying important information in the primary field-of-view of the pilot.
