Lucy’s Logbook: Come See the GTR 200 at Oshkosh
The annual Oshkosh airshow is a hotbed for new product announcements. Garmin officially announced the GTR 200 Comm Radio last week and we’re excited about the new capabilities it offers experimental and LSA aircraft!
Similar to features found on other Garmin certified audio panels, the GTR 200 showcases 3D audio and provides spatial separation. The 3D audio feature provides spatial separation of the active frequency, monitored standby frequency, and pilot/copilot audio streams, making it even easier to recognize that you are receiving on the active or standby frequencies without looking for the RX indicator.
Adding to ease of use and reducing pilot workload, the GTR 200 is compatible with not only the G3X flight display but also many of our portable products such as the aera 795/796,
GPSMAP
695/696,
and aera
5XX series. The GTR has the ability to access frequency and identifier information from the G3X or Garmin portable;
ensuring pilots obtain and correctly transfer frequency information. Even
further, the nearest airport and flight plan data is continually fed to the GTR
200 so accessing airport frequency information is quick and easy with the single
push of a knob.
Two user-defined softkeys allow pilots to assign functions
to the GTR 200. Pilot’s have the ability to assign these softkeys to a variety
of features such as, pilot isolate, PTT, user defined frequency lists, turn
music on/off, or automatically tune to 121.5 for emergency purposes.
Saving your home airport frequencies is a breeze! Adding to
the feature-packed Comm Radio, the option to save up to 20 user defined presets
is available. To access pilot saved frequencies, it’s as simple as
“Push-Select-Push” – figuring the crosswind component is more difficult than
this!
Also released last week is the latest G3X software! Version
8.20 features a newly added selected altitude intercept arc which allows
pilots to easily plan their descents. Furthermore, the addition of external GPS
support for the
GDL 39/39R ADS-B Receiver allows the GDL to utilize the GPS data from the
G3X. Pilots no longer have to install a remote antenna to support the GDL
39/39R.
We’re certainly excited to showcase the latest from ‘Team X’
and encourage you to come see the GTR 200 first hand in the experimental tent just outside of Hangar D this week!
