LiveTrack Helps Rescue Cyclist

A Colorado cyclist was recently rescued with the help of a fēnix 3 and its live tracking feature within the Garmin Connect Mobile App. The LiveTrack feature provides loved ones peace of mind during workouts while tracking your activities in real time. Those individuals you invite via email, Facebook or Twitter receive a link to a webpage that includes the position of your phone or connected Edge. They’ll also be able to track your elapsed time, distance, speed and elevation in real time.

Tyler Rauenzahn, a 37-year old Colorado native who loves the outdoors, is an avid cyclist that rides up to 6 times a week with his fēnix 3. On one of his typical day rides Tyler crashed and found himself in serious trouble. Below he recounts his incredible story:

“I was wearing my fēnix 3 and was having a great road ride that day in Colorado. I just started using the live track feature and sent the invitation to my wife before my ride. About 20 miles from home, I went head over handlebars, knocking myself out on the pavement. I later found myself standing up and speaking to my wife on my cell. Looking around and at my cycling clothes/helmet, I could see I crashed hard. I told her, I have no idea where I am. I know I crashed and hit my head hard (as I could see the helmet had major damage). She told me she had my position via the live track and she was on her way! I stumbled around and she later found me via the live track map. There was no way I could tell her how to find me. I knew I was concussed and couldn’t think straight. Thanks to your fēnix 3 and the live tracker, I was able to be picked up 20 miles away from my house and driven to the nearest emergency room. Because of the fēnix 3 and the Garmin Connect App, I’m able to be home with my wife and two daughters.”

We are very grateful that Tyler made it home safely and we hope this story demonstrates the importance of using the LiveTrack with Garmin Connect Mobile. You can join the adventure and share your stories with us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram using #HaveNoLimits.
