Jake’s Journal: My pain is your gain

JakesjournalFr405greencropHere’s another chance to win free stuff. Last year, when you were asked to predict my time in the Chicago Marathon, one lucky winner walked away with a Garmin goodie bag. When I line up in downtown Kansas City on Saturday morning, I’ll be putting months (or at least weeks) of training to the test. All you have to do is ponder a few seconds and take a wild guess.

What will my time be in the KC marathon? If you have the best prediction in the comments below, you’ll win an autographed Team Garmin shirt* and a limited-edition Oregon geocoin. Some factors to consider: 1) My time last year in Chicago was 3:49. 2) This year’s 21-mile training run was at an 8-minute pace. 3) Mile No. 20 was not fun. In either instance. 4) I have a pacing partner who has run two previous marathons, one in 3:35. 5) I have a Virtual Partner on my Forerunner 405 who can run whatever pace I tell him. For more hints, find me in the Garmin booth Friday at the Expo or follow my Twitter updates (I may take a break when I’m actually running).

*The fine print: Because Team Garmin is spread out over the world right now, the only autograph will be mine. You can choose to decline the autograph. Saturday’s race begins at a brisk 7 a.m. CST, so you have until then to enter. Good luck. And at least you won’t be the one walking funny afterward.
