Jake’s Journal: Busy weekend at New York City Marathon

IMG_0409For the third time in the past four years, I'm in New York in November for the best 26.2 miles of people-watching and high-five-sharing that I can imagine. After running with my buddy Joel in 2008 and with a camera in 2010, I have three great running partners along for this year's journey: Garmin friends Josh and Justin (apparently having a "J" name is a prerequisite) and my new Forerunner 910XT. This exciting new multisport watch, which starts shipping to specialty fitness retailers at the end of this month, blends my favorite features of its predecessors and adds a few new surprises, such as the advanced swim metrics. From the 20-hour battery life to the vibration alerts (especially handy when running with 47,000 people in one of the world's loudest cities) to the easy-to-read display, this training partner makes it easy to get as much or as little feedback as I want. The real-time analytics and steady-paced virtual partner help me run smarter. And after I'm done (running or riding), uploading to Garmin Connect helps me analyze and relive my highlights, address and resolve my lowlights and share my favorite results. And judging by the crowds these past couple days at the Garmin booth here at the NYC expo, there will be plenty of us uploading data from a Forerunner after Sunday's marathon. So whoever and whatever you're running with this weekend, I hope to meet as many of you as possible. I'll be the bald guy in the Garmin shirt and 910XT handing out high fives.
