Today Garmin announced the GHP Compact Reactor Hydraulic Autopilot, the newest addition to its GHP autopilot series, ideal for single engine outboard boats under 30 feet. The GHP Compact Reactor greatly minimizes heading error, course deviation, rudder movement, and power consumption while providing a comfortable ride for all onboard. With three different configurations available, it’s a flexible solution that allows boaters to choose the features they need and how much they want to spend. The GHP Compact Reactor is being announced in conjunction with the Miami International Boat Show (Garmin booth #C480).

The GHP Compact Reactor is based on the same advanced solid-state 9-axis AHRS technology as the other autopilots in the Reactor series. The Compact series is offered in three configurations, all with a 1-liter pump, so that users can select the configuration that best fits their needs. The Compact Reactor Starter Pack includes the core autopilot components needed to install and use alongside a compatible chartplotter, such as a new NMEA 2000 capable echoMAP CHIRP chartplotter combo series and many more. Another configuration is available with a GHC 20 Autopilot Control Unit, and the third option adds both the GHC 20 and the Garmin-patented Shadow Drive. Shadow Drive allows the user to disengages the autopilot with a turn of the helm, allowing them to always remain in control of the vessel for any quick maneuvering or safety procedures.

Fully integrated with current Garmin electronics, the Reactor Series can be controlled from a compatible chartplotter. With full autopilot capabilities from the screen of the chartplotter, the system can be easily controlled. What’s more, the autopilot can be engaged to follow patented Garmin’s Auto Guidance technology (requires BlueChart g2 Vision or LakeVü HD Ultra). This allows the mariner to enter a destination and the chartplotter searches the relevant charts to create a path based off of the dimensions and parameters of the vessel. For even more flexibility while onboard, the Compact Reactor can be controlled from anywhere on the boat with an optional GHC wireless remote.

The GHP Compact Reactor series is expected to be available in Q1 of 2016, and will range in price from $1099.99 to $1999.99. For more information, visit www.garmin.com/marine2016.
