How to Avoid Fourth of July Traffic

Traffic
Fourth of July is one
of the busiest holidays of the year with millions of Americans visiting their
families. AAA Travel
projects that eighty-four percent of travelers (34.4
million) will travel by automobile this Independence Day, so traffic could be a
problem. To make sure you don’t end up stuck in gridlock watching fireworks
from your car, here are a few tips to avoid the mess.

1. Avoid Driving on July 3 and 7

Try to
avoid driving on July 3 and 7. With many travelers taking advantage of the long weekend,
it’s no surprise that the largest share (32
percent) will depart on Wednesday, July 3. The most popular return date (38
percent) is Sunday, July 7, according to AAA Travel.

2. Leave Early

No matter when you
travel, leaving early almost always does the trick. Make sure to hit the road
before others get up in the morning or leave work. This is especially true if
you have to travel on July 3 or 7. Don’t leave at 5pm when everybody gets off
work to hit the road.

3. Use a Garmin nüvi with Real-Time Traffic

Garmin offers
real-time information on many nüvi
models
. With traffic services on
your navigator, you’ll avoid traffic caused by accidents, construction or other
delays. Our traffic services work with your device to suggest alternate routes
and guide you around trouble spots. It sifts through all kinds of traffic data
to find you the quickest, most hassle-free route. To learn more about our different traffic
offerings, go to garmin.com/traffic.

4. Check Live Traffic Cameras

Our Garmin Smartphone Link app
allows you to check out real-time images from traffic cameras[1] (subscription required) on
your nüvi. This allows you to check traffic conditions ahead of time to make
sure you avoid congested areas. Smartphone Link sends real-time information
from your smartphone to your nüvi via Bluetooth.

Have a great Fourth of July everyone!
