Highlights from Hood to Coast relay

Kurt Start lineHere’s what three-time Hood to Coast participant Kurt, from Garmin, had to say about this year’s race: “The relay started out HOT. We were all quite comfortable in shorts and t-shirts up on Mt. Hood. Not a good sign for our first legs at lower altitude and in full sun. But, we made it through and into the night when it cooled off nicely. I even saw my own breath in the glow of my headlamp. Haven’t seen that in a while considering the summer we’ve had in Kansas. The rest of the race ticked right along with everyone hitting close to or better than their predicted times. We finished the race in 28 hrs 20 minutes — 52 minutes faster than our predicted finish. Along the way we saw many strange and sometimes disturbing sites such as a team of scantily clad Star Wars storm troopers (think Speedos, helmets and blasters) and all manner of items mounted on vans. All and all, a fun time was had by all and we have yet another adventure to relive in Garmin Connect.”

Check out Kurt’s Garmin Connect data from leg 5, leg 17 and leg 29 of the 2011 Hood to Coast Relay. Plus, see his hike from the day before the race in Silver Creek State Park.
