Happy Chinese New Year!

Today, February 8th 2016 is the celebration of Chinese New Year! Also called the Lunar New Year or the Spring Festival, this signifies the most important social and economic holiday in China and is originally tied to the lunar-solar Chinese calendar. This holiday has traditionally been a time to honor household and heavenly deities, respect ancestors and most importantly bring families together to feast. This year, most of the Chinese people will be off work for seven days, from February 7-February 13 to: celebrate a year of hard work, rest and wish for a prosperous coming year. Whether you are celebrating and partaking in this wonderful holiday, or respecting the tradition we have a few watch faces from the Connect IQ Store that will help you enjoy this special holiday!

Chinese New Year Watch Face

The first, and most applicable watch face for this celebration is the Chinese New Year watch face. This particular watch face rotates between a few different images, but what is pictured above is one of the main views. The color red is strongly associated with the festival and is used to symbolize joy, virtue, and prosperity. In addition to the color of the background, this also features Chinese calligraphy and a dragon to tie back to traditions in the country. This is a great choice when looking at options for this special day.

Monkey Year Watch Face

Another option is our Monkey Year watch face. 2016 is the year of the monkey, which holds the ninth position in the Chinese Zodiac. Monkeys are cheerful and energetic by nature, often representing flexibility. This watch face also features a few different looks that rotate depending on the time. In addition to the time, the remaining battery charge and Bluetooth status are displayed. This is a fun choice if you want to go bananas!

Still searching for the perfect watch face to celebrate the New Year? Depending on your style, both the Traditional Chinese Landmarks watch face (left) and the Modern Chinese Landmarks watch face (right) are great compliments to have. If you want to be reminded of the rich history of the Chinese culture then the traditional route would be the best option. It features the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, Chang’s Family Manor (Changshizhuangyuan), the Turret of The Palace Museum, the Prince Gong Mansion, and the Great Wall of China. If you want to revel in current accomplishments and get excited about the future of the country, the modern route would be the best option. Featuring modern landmarks in China including the Oriental Pearl Tower, Beijing National Stadium, Beijing National Aquatics Center, Shanghai World Financial Center, and China Central Television Headquarters.

Whichever watch face you end up choosing, we wish you a happy Chinese New Year!
