Garmin is headed to the 12th annual GeoWoodstock at Frontier Park in Historic St. Charles, MO, on May 24th, 2014. GeoWoodstock is an annual convention for the game of geocaching, featuring games, classes, workshops, and appearances by legends of the community. Cachers will have the opportunity to collect 11 different cache types all within a short distance. The event also offers the largest assembly of geocaching vendors, a silent acution, great food, and activities for the kids.

Among the prominent participants of the geocaching community is legend Alamogul, who will find his 100,000th cache at the event. We took some time to interview Alamogul about his caching experience. Here’s what he had to say:

When did you first start geocaching?  End of 2002.

What first got you interested in caching? I’d been hiking with my dog in the nearby hills, this now gave me a destination.

What has been your favorite cache so far? I don’t think I could pick one.

100,000 caches is a lot, how much did you have to travel to get that many caches?  I travel quite a significant amount for caching trips. I have worn out personal cachemobiles and rental cachemobiles. I  fly about 6 times per year for caching trips.  Also, we once put 10,200 miles on a new rental SUV in just 2 weeks caching the entire US.

Where was your favorite place to cache?  Nevada as it is dry, minimal foliage, plenty of caches and great landscapes.

You’ve logged 100,000 caches, how many new caches have you placed?  I’ve placed about 800.

Any advice for newbie cachers?  It’s a game, just have fun!

If you are at GeoWoodstock this weekend, stop by the Garmin booth to check out the latest handhelds, swap caching stories and pick up a few caching tips. We hope to see you there!
