Geocaching across the Midwest

Jakesjournal According to Geocaching.com, there are nearly 500,000 caches hidden around the world. Here are a few of those spots…

In Greeley, Colorado, they’re taking advantage of the beautiful scenery and giving residents and travelers yet another reason to venture out into nature. A reporter for The Tribune fesses up to being "one of these techno-geeky nature lovers" in her geocaching story and video. Well, if being techno-geeky is wrong, I don’t know who would want to be right.

In fact, everyone in Arkansas is being encouraged to embrace their inner techno-geek. The Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism provides the coordinates to different caches each month, and geocachers may find incentives such as certificates for lodging or restaurants.

Katytrail Geocaching has even taken hold in Boonville, Missouri, where Jocelyn and I visited recently. The town of about 8,000 is situated along the Missouri River and historic Katy Trail, and there were three caches within less than a mile of our hotel – one being just around the corner.

So where are you searching, and which Garmin devices are you using? Tell us all about it in the comments below and we’ll share tales and trails.
