Geocacher goes “Above the Clouds” on Kilimanjaro

UhuruPeak We walked past glistening glaciers at sunrise and not far ahead saw the sign for Uhuru Peak; at 0700 and in full, extremely strong sunlight and deep blue skies. Mt. Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa, standing alone at 5891.8 meters (19,330 feet), coordinates S 3˚.4΄ 33˝ E 27˚.21΄ 12˝. I used my Garmin eTrex Legend the entire climb, waymarking our campsites and elevations along the route. I located the cache GC8752 Above the Clouds at 16,000 ft where I left the travel bug “A Little Mad Money” which was later retrieved and now traveling somewhere in the Netherlands.

I still have the summit waymark and elevation saved in my Garmin to remind me, it was not just a dream but a dream come true. If anyone gets the opportunity to climb Kilimanjaro, don’t hesitate, it’s a challenge that will change your world.

Thanks for the opportunity to share. — Jay (aka ironlegs69)
