Garmin’s marine team checks in from The Big Rock
Our marine team is on scene this week at the 54th annual Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament in North Carolina. With a fleet of more than 120 boats in the water, this tournament has a total purse of more than $1 million – making this the 15th year in a row that the purse has broken a million! It's been excellent fishing so far – dozens of billfish and blue marlin hook ups and even a few sailfish to report. Team "The Bench Mark" out of South Carolina even got a Grand Slam, reeling in a blue marlin, white marlin and a sailfish. And yesterday "Flybuoy" opened the day with a blue marlin that tipped the scales at 499.3 pounds and bumped them into first place – just ounces shy of the 500-pound requirement to receive the tourney's instant $246,000 Fabulous Fisherman's prize! After the Big Rock tournament, our marine team heads to Bermuda for the Bermuda Billfish Release Cup at the end of the month.
