Garmin Pilot and VIRB Integration Sneak Peek!

VIRB1

Several months ago, thanks to the generosity of the Commemorative Air Force, I got the opportunity to take my first flight in a WWII P-51 Mustang. To say I didn’t have a permanent smile on my face (more affectionately known as a ‘Mustang Smile’) for the rest of the week is an understatement. Ok, maybe I am still smiling.

Armed with VIRB (and a big smile), I climbed into the back seat of the P51. I took the VIRB suction cup mount and stuck it to the side of the canopy and began recording but had one minor concern: by mounting VIRB on to the canopy above my head, I couldn’t see the viewfinder to ensure I was getting the video I wanted.

Fast forward a few months and I am excited to offer a sneak peek at Garmin Pilot and how our aviation application will soon integrate with VIRB to help ensure you gather the footage you want. In the coming weeks version 6.0 for iOS will have several feature enhancements and include VIRB integration.

In addition to not only viewing video footage from VIRB, Garmin Pilot will allow pilots to remotely control VIRB. The option to start and stop video recording and take still photos via Garmin Pilot is a convenient way to gather in-flight footage, all while viewing pertinent flight plan information. Garmin Pilot allows pilots to mount VIRB anywhere within the aircraft so pilots may capture thrilling footage from the angle they desire and still control the camera.

You too can begin easily capturing excellent video and photos in-flight with VIRB in the coming weeks when version 6.0 of Garmin Pilot for iOS will be available so stay tuned – you never know when you might have the opportunity to capture your ‘Mustang Smile!’
