GSD26_HR_101 Rodman-1250-in-dry-dock2Garmin is excited to announce that is has partnered with AIRMAR Technology Corporation in the launch of their summer fishing expedition, "Bluefin Tuna – Past and Present," which focuses on utlizing the latest fishfinding technology to locate Atlantic bluefin tuna in the waters surrounding Scotland. This species has been over-fished in the last twenty years but some recent studies and climatic changes are showing an encouraging rebirth of the North Atlantic population thanks to some great conservation efforts in the Western Atlantic. The project boat, "Keep it Reel," is a 40' Rodman 1250 Fisher Pro and will be outfitted with the latest in Garmin electronics, including three GPSMAP 7012 MFDs, a GSD 26 with Spread Spectrum CHIRP technology, a GHP 12 autopilot, GMR xHD radar and VHF and AIS communication equipment. Equipped with the Garmin GSD 26 black-box sounder and AIRMAR's new broadband transducers – the most advanced sonar technology available today – the leaders of this expedition hope to demonstrate the return of the bluefin tuna in their region during the expedition which will begin this week and wrap up October.

For full "Bluefin Tuna – Past and Present" project details, including a team biography, boat information, itinerary and photos, you can follow the expedition through AIRMAR's blog. We'll also be reporting details throughout the expedition, too, so stay tuned for more updates through the journey!
