IMAG0422 IMAG0460Last weekend, Garmin had the opportunity to participate in an amazing Gateway to Aviation event for the Lewis and Clark Council of Boy Scouts of America at the St. Louis Downtown Airport. The event, put on jointly by Metro St. Louis and St. Louis University’s Parks College of Engineering Aviation and Technology, attracted Boy Scouts from all across southwestern Illinois and the St. Louis area with the goal of introducing youth to aviation. There were hundreds of scouts who camped out at the airport for the event with such enthusiasm. We were thrilled to spend the day helping them earn IMAG0498their aviation merit badge by teaching them about avionics and navigation. The scouts had a blast getting their hands on our products like the GTN touchscreen avionics, G500 flight display, and aera 796 portable GPS. Scouts also had the opportunity to try Boeing’s F-18 flight simulator, and go flying courtesy of EAA and their Young Eagles program. Of course, we wanted in on the flying fun, too, so we brought out the Garmin G36 Bonanza and took some scouts up in the air, giving them a chance to see the G1000 in action. We’re thankful for the opportunity to help introduce the sport of aviation to a new group of young people. There most definitely are some aspiring pilots in this group, and we’re looking forward to seeing them pursue their dreams of flying.
